I used to be incredibly shy, rarely speaking to anyone outside my immediate family and staying in my own bubble. In hopes of helping me build confidence, my parents enrolled me in a speech and debate class. but instead of empowering me, the class's emphasis on competition and content over personal growth make me feel like I had to perform rather than learn. It was not until I joined Katy Speech and Debate Academy that the way I approached speech and debate as well as my belief in my own voice changed. There, I found a community that valued personal progress over event perfection, and I slowly gained the courage to speak up and reach further — not just in rounds, but in life.

          I started The Voices Initiative to offer students what I once needed: a space where public speaking and debate are tools for self-growth, not just performative confidence and trophies. Our program trains students in traditional events, but we lead with true confidence, critical thinking, and global awareness. I founded The Voices Initiative to empower others like me — students who have powerful voices and revolutionary thoughts waiting to be heard.
